PACKAGING GLOSSARY
Every option, explained
Materials, linings, print methods and finishes can start to blur together. Here's what each one means, so you always know exactly what you're choosing for your cylinder.
outer material

Art Paper
A smooth white paper wrap that takes full-colour CMYK printing and a matte or gloss laminate. The go-to choice when your artwork needs accurate colour, photography or a polished, coated finish.

Natural Kraft
Uncoated brown paper with a natural, tactile feel. Supplied without lamination. Pair it with CMYK + White so the ink stays bright against the kraft.

White Kraft
An uncoated white-faced kraft, this finish has the clean look of white paper with the natural, tactile feel of kraft. Supplied without lamination.

Black Kraft
The same uncoated kraft in black. A bold, premium base for white or metallic printing and foil accents.
lining

White Kraft
A clean, uncoated white lining. This is the standard choice when you want the inside of the cylinder to stay neutral.

Natural Kraft
An uncoated brown lining that matches a natural kraft exterior for a consistent, all-kraft look inside and out.

Black Kraft
An uncoated black lining that pairs naturally with a black kraft or dark-themed exterior.

Foil - Silver
A food-grade silver foil lining. Popular for cosmetics and food products, it also gives the inside of the cylinder a premium, reflective finish.

Foil - Gold
A food-grade gold foil lining β the same protective, premium finish as silver, in a warmer tone.

Wax
A food-grade wax lining. Choosing Wax with no laminate on the outer keeps the whole cylinder compostable β a laminate finish will affect this.
printing

CMYK
Full-colour printing built from four inks β cyan, magenta, yellow and black β layered to reproduce any colour. The standard for artwork with photography, gradients or more than a couple of colours on light surfaces.

CMYK + White
Full-colour printing laid over a white base layer so colours stay bright and true on kraft, instead of sinking into the brown or black paper.

Pantone
Pre-mixed spot inks matched to exact colour codes rather than built from CMYK. Choose Pantone when a brand colour has to look identical on every run.

Pantone + CMYK
Full-colour CMYK plus one or more exact-match Pantone inks in the same run. Useful when the design is full colour but a logo or brand colour must hit exactly right.
lamination / finish

Matte
A flat, non-reflective coating that feels soft to the touch and looks premium. Our most popular finish β available on Art Paper only.

Gloss
A reflective coating that makes colours pop β great for high-impact, vibrant designs. Available on Art Paper only.

No lamination
Kraft outers are supplied uncoated β the natural surface is part of the look. Art Paper can also be left unlaminated for a raw, matte-paper feel.

Foil accents
A metallic foil stamped onto specific parts of your design. Gold and Silver are the standard options β tell us any other foil colour and we'll confirm it's achievable for your stock and run size.

Embossing
A raised detail pressed into the paper from behind, no ink required. Lifts a logo or wordmark off the surface so it catches the light.

Debossing
A recessed detail pressed into the paper β it sits into the surface rather than off it, for a quieter, tactile texture.

Spot Gloss
A gloss varnish applied to selected parts of the design while the rest of the cylinder stays matte or uncoated. A subtle way to draw the eye to a logo or detail.
