Every option, explained
Structures, finishes and features can start to blur together. Here's what each one means, so you always know exactly what you're choosing for your box bottom bag.
shape
Regular
The classic tall, slim bag, our standard shape for each size.
Square
A shorter, wider bag with the same gusset, for a squat, modern look that sits well on a shelf.
bag structure
Standard
Our highest performing bag and the gold standard for protecting your product: a multi-layer laminate with a metallised barrier that keeps out light, air and moisture. Offers every finish. Because it combines different materials, it isn't recyclable.
Mono Material
Every layer is made from the same family of plastic (PE), so the bag is designed to be recycled through soft plastics recycling where it's available. Available in film finishes, not kraft. Can also be made with certified post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, with the same barrier performance.
Mono Material - High Barrier
A mono material bag with an added EVOH barrier for products that need extra protection from oxygen, like coffee and snacks. Can also be made with certified post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, with the same barrier performance.
Compostable
Made from plant-based films, designed to break down in commercial composting. Available with a kraft paper face or a matte finish.
Compostable - High Barrier
A compostable bag with a higher barrier for products that need a longer shelf life. Available with a kraft paper face.
PCR
Post-consumer recycled content. Mono Material bags can be made with 30% or 60% certified recycled content in the films, with the same barrier performance.

Kraft
A real paper face in natural brown, white or black, for a natural, earthy look and feel.
Matte
A soft, low-sheen finish that looks premium and keeps glare down on the shelf.
Gloss
A bright, reflective finish that makes colours pop.
Soft Touch
A velvety, almost rubbery feel that invites customers to pick the pouch up.
Rough Touch
A textured finish with a tactile, paper-like grip.
Clear
A fully see-through bag that puts your product on show. Leave it plain or print on it with any method.
Frosted
A translucent, softly frosted film that hints at the product inside. Prints in CMYK or can be left plain.
Metallic accents
A silver shine from the metallic layer inside the bag, showing through wherever your artwork leaves it unprinted, so you decide where it appears. Print a translucent colour over it to tint it (yellow over silver reads as gold). Standard bags only, best on Gloss, and not with a window or on kraft (a kraft bag gets its shine from a foil accent).
Holographic
A rainbow shimmer that shifts as the bag moves, showing through the unprinted areas of your design. Standard bags only, and not with a window.
features
Ripper zip
A zip with a tear-off strip above it: customers tear the strip to open the bag, then use the zip to reseal it.
Standard zip
A press-to-close zip so customers can reseal the bag and keep the product fresh. In a box bottom bag a standard zip stops the side gussets short of the top, so we recommend a slightly wider bag if you want one.
No zip
This bag comes zip free and can be sealed with a heat sealer. Perfect for products that will only be opened once and used immediately.
Tin tie
A wire tie fixed across the top of the bag that folds down to close it again, the classic closure for a bag without a zip.
Tear notch
A small notch at the top of the bag so it tears open cleanly by hand. Not needed with a Ripper Zip, whose tear-off strip opens the bag.
Degassing valve
A one-way valve that lets gases out without letting air in, essential for freshly roasted coffee. Choose a compostable or mono material valve to match your structure.
Window
A clear panel that lets customers see the product inside.
Foil
A metallic or holographic foil accent on part of your design, such as your logo. Available on Standard bags; a foil layer would stop a mono material or compostable bag being either.
Spot gloss
A glossy highlight on selected areas of your design, standing out against a matte, soft touch or rough touch finish. Not available on gloss, clear, frosted or kraft bags.
